The role of CD47 in cell migration was first demonstrated for neutrophils, where CD47 blocking antibodies inhibited transmigration of neutrophils and monocytes through the endothelium. These results were shown to be dependent on avb3 integrins, which interact with and are activated by CD47 at the plasma membrane.
